Women's basketball finalizes January with 4-1 record, registering multiple nail-biting wins

The Berkeley College women's basketball team finalized the month of January with four victories in five contests, bumping its record to 12-10 on the 2025-2026 campaign (6-2 NACIA). The Knights' triumphs included a 61-54 win at Five Towns College (January 15), and home triumphs of over Bryant & Stratton-Ohio (63-58 on January 16), Bryant & Stratton-Albany (72-67 on January 17), and Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse (85-80 in OT, January 30). Berkeley's one setback during that span was a 73-47 loss at Bloomfield back on January 27.

January 15, 2026: Berkeley 61, Five Towns 54

In the Knights' win over the Sound, Anastasia Davis put forth a strong performance off of the bench, as she scored a team-high 15 points to go along with three rebounds. Aniyah Robinson posted a double-double with 12 points, a game-high 13 rebounds, a game-high three blocked shots, and two steals. Savannah Williams contributed 12 points, five rebounds, a game-high five assists, and two steals, and Ariella Johnson added 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Despite the loss for the sound, Raine Mears connected on seven of her eight free throws to finish with a game-high 18 points. She also added a team-high eight rebounds and a game-high four steals. Ty Zanae Reed drained three triples to finish with nine points, and other key contributors for Five Towns included Dee Bishop (eight points, a team-high four assists, and two rebounds, and Geormaya Davis (eight points, three rebounds)

The Knights trailed 18-12 after the first quarter, and went into the locker room in a 34-28 hole. Five Towns held a seven point lead (39-32) with 7:48 remaining in the third, before a 9-1 run by the Knights gave Berkeley a 41-40 edge with 3:54 left in the period. That aforementioned run came courtesy of a three-point basket by Williams, and two points apiece by Robinson, Spady, and Davian Myers. The teams exchanged the lead three more times for the remainder of the session, with the Sound grabbing a slim 45-44 advantage after 30 minutes of action.

The Knights dominated the fourth quarter to secure the victory, outscoring the Sound 17-9 and allowing just two Five Towns College field goals over the final 10 minutes. Davis was a key contributor in the fourth quarter, as she scored six points, with Robinson adding five.

Both teams struggled shooting the basketball, as the Knights earned a conversion rate of just 29.9 percent (20-67), while Five Towns connected on 15 of 58 attempts (25.9 percent). Berkeley held a healthy 52-43 edge on the glass, while also holding an advantage in blocked shots (4-1), and winning the turnover battle. The Knights committed 20 miscues, while the sound finished with 22. Five Towns did hold advantages in assists (14-13) and steals (8-6).

January 16, 2026: Berkeley 63, Bryant & Stratton (Ohio) 58

Johnson led the way for Berkeley in its victory over Bryant & Stratton (Ohio), as she scored a game-high 22 points while adding eight rebounds and leading all players with five steals. Robinson nearly posted a double-double, as she finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a pair of steals, and two swatted shots, and Nyeira Spady finalized her evening with 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The visitors were paced by Precious Williams, as her 15 points were a team-high. She also snatched eight rebounds and swiped two steals. Destinee White finalized her evening with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and Aryn Harris netted 14 points while swiping a team-high four steals. She also collected three rebounds, as well. Finally, Delesga "FeFe" Jackson's 11 rebounds were a game-high.

The Knights trailed 19-14 after 10 minutes of action, but closed the gap in the second quarter, outscoring the opposition 12-8 to pull to within one, 27-26, as the horn sounded on the first half. In the second half, the Knights outscored the Bobcats 37-31 to capture the five-point win (63-58).

Both teams struggled shooting the basketball from the floor, as the Knights earned a conversion rate of just 32.8 percent (21-64), while Bryant & Stratton (Ohio) connected on just 20 out of 70 shots (28.6 percent). The visitors held a 53-43 advantage on the glass, and an 8-6 edge in assists. Berkeley College swiped 16 steals to the Bobcats' 13, and the Knights swatted three shots, while the opposition registered none. Berkeley took care of the basketball well, finishing with just 11 miscues, while Bryant & Stratton (Ohio) committed 28.

January 17, 2026: Berkeley 72, Bryant & Stratton-Albany 67

Johnson led the way for Berkeley in its victory over Bryant & Stratton-Albany, as she finished with a game-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Spady added 11 points while tying for the team-high of seven rebounds, tying for the game-high of four steals, and adding three assists. Arianna Wilder scored 11 points and snatched a pair of boards, and Williams contributed 10 points while tying for the game-high of four assists.

Four players scored in double figures for the visitors, including Krysta Gonzalez, as her 19 points led all players. She also tied for the game-high of four assists, snatched three rebounds, and added two steals. Dasia Edmond netted 17 points while snatching three rebounds and tallying three steals, and Mei-Lin Calliste posted a double-double, scoring 13 points while collecting a game-high 12 rebounds. Finally, it was Shailyn Woodson netting 12 points, collecting five rebounds, and dishing two assists.

In yet another close game, Berkeley overcame a slow start to snatch another comeback win. Finding themselves behind 17-15 after 10 minutes of action, the Knights outscored the opposition 38-30 over the next two quarters to take a 53-47 advantage after the third quarter. In the fourth, Berkeley maintained its advantage, holding off the Bobcats for a five-point win (72-67).

Berkeley College earned just a 35.3 percent conversion rate for the evening (24-68), while Bryant & Stratton-Albany connected on 33.8 percent of its shot attempts (23-68). The Knights held advantages in multiple categories, including rebounds (50-45), assists (15-12), and steals (13-12), and each team registered three swatted shots. The Knights committed 24 turnovers on the evening, while the Bobcats finished with 26.

January 27, 2026: Bloomfield 73, Berkeley 47

Johnson led the Knights in scoring despite the team's loss to Bloomfield, as she connected on three triples, finishing with a team-high 15 points. She also added seven rebounds and a team-high three assists, while tying for the game-high of three steals. Williams contributed 12 points and three rebounds, and Spady narrowly missed posting a double-double, as she finished with nine points, nine rebounds, and two assists.

Nia Mallette was excellent for the Bears in their victory, as she scored a game-high 25 points while collecting 12 rebounds. She also tied for the game-high of three steals, while blocking a shot. Anisha Able posted a double-double with 14 points, a game-high 16 rebounds, two assists, and a steal, and Kayla Lewis finished with nine points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Bloomfield was hot out of the gate, jumping on the Knights, 23-7 in the first quarter. By the half the home team grew their lead to, 41-16 as Mallette poured in 13 on the strength of 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the three-point line. The Bears maintained their advantage throughout the second half, outscoring Berkeley 32-31 to earn a comfortable 26-point win (73-47).

Both teams struggled mightily from the floor, as Bloomfield connected on just 21 of 68 shot attempts (30.9 percent), and the Knights earned a conversion rate of 23.9 percent (16-67). The Bears held a 56-52 edge on the glass, while also earning advantages in assists (15-10) and steals (13-7). Berkeley swatted four shots compared to two for the hosts, and Bloomfield won the turnover battle, committing 16 miscues, while the Knights had 25.

January 30, 2026: Berkeley 85, Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse 80 (OT)

Johnson continued her stellar performances in the Knights' overtime victory over the Bobcats, as she scored a team-high 27 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Davis scored 18 points while snatching four rebounds, and Aaliyah Carroll posted a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Finally, it was Spady finishing with 10 points, a team-high 11 rebounds, three assists, and a team-high three steals.

Despite the loss for Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse, Magnama Traore posted a double-double with game-highs of 30 points and 20 rebounds to go along with two assists. Lanasia Drain also posted a double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and Angeleny Cobos finalized her evening with 17 points, four steals, four rebounds, and two assists. Finally, it was Freey Pleasants finalizing her evening with 16 points, a game-high 12 assists, five rebounds, and four steals.

Berkeley trailed by as many as 11 points (51-40) late in the third quarter before staging an impressive rally to get the game to overtime. One there, the Knights minimized the Bobcats' offensive attack to secure the stellar come-from-behind overtime win.

Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse lost the game despite shooting much better from the floor, as the Bobcats connected on 31 out of 71 attempts from the floor (43.7 percent), while Berkeley drained just 34.1 percent of its shot attempts (29-85). The visitors held a 47-40 edge on the glass, while also dishing 21 assists to Berkeley's 14. The Bobcats swiped 13 steals compared to nine for the Knights, and Berkeley won the turnover battle, committing 21 miscues to the Bobcats' 30.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, February 7, as Berkeley will travel to the Villa Athletic Center in Buffalo, NY to take on the Vikings in an NACIA contest. Start-time is scheduled for 12:00pm.
